Catherine's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
