Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
